I am a late bloomer because I was a thoroughly blocked up artist. I'd buy myself supplies and not use them. Or I'd start with something like, for example, whittling, and I'd get excited, buy books and supplies and never finish my first three whittling projects. I tried all kinds of things to get me started and nothing worked till I joined Arts Anonymous, attended phone meetings, and worked my way through the book The Artists' Way by Julia Cameron for a second time. Finally, I was able to get past the issues that were holding me back. And I am so grateful because I love doing art. It's like I've finally come home.
So forgive me if I preach a minute but if you are a blocked creative, I urge you to do whatever it takes to break through. It will be well worth it. At any age.
